The lagoon starts at the end of the lane, the cane ends at Saint-François.
Le Moule is on the Atlantic coast of Grande-Terre. The coral reef breaks the swell and leaves a flat lagoon in front of the beach; two hundred metres further out, the wave belongs to the surfers again.
Everything is within half an hour, except Basse-Terre.

Autre Bord beach
A kilometre of white sand behind the reef, lifeguarded at weekends. You walk down the dirt lane, towel over your shoulder, in four minutes.
The lagoon
A metre and a half deep for three hundred metres, water at 27 degrees all year. This is where children learn to swim and where you take the paddleboard out in the morning.
The surf break
Beyond the reef the Atlantic swell comes back whole. Le Moule is one of the three serious breaks in Guadeloupe: best from November to April, instructors on the beach.
Porte d’Enfer
A quarter of an hour away, the cliff splits onto a closed lagoon, flat as a pool. The Grande Vigie path starts there and follows the wild coast for hours.
Round Grande-Terre
Pointe des Châteaux, Sainte-Anne, the Grands-Fonds: one day by car covers the loop, and you are back for dinner at the house.
The end of the day
The sun drops behind the cane around six, all year round. Punch on the veranda, and night falls in twenty minutes.

Caravelle beach for turquoise water, the town for bokits and soursop ice cream.

The Amerindian archaeological museum, three minutes from the villa. An hour is enough, and the island reads differently afterwards.
Les Grands-Fonds

The inland hills, the Creole houses and the goats on the road. Nobody goes, and it is the finest drive on Grande-Terre.

Ferry from Saint-François, an hour at sea. Terre-de-Haut, the Pain de Sucre, and back in the evening.
